What an exciting sequel this is! We pick up two years from the previous movie, and our hero Cole has most certainly grown into a young handsome fella; albeit a bit of an introvert. Having endured what, I would describe as a WTAF! night from hell, it’s safe to say that Cole has some PTSD. His best friend Melanie is the only person who was also there on that fateful night when our favourite charming babysitter, Bee, and her friends decided to take in a satanic ritual in his house. And steal his blood in order to make a sacrifice in order to get what they want most in life. Nobody else believes him, and things are starting to get serious with his parents wondering if he has some very serious mental health problems… queue the school group heading to a lake to party with no adult supervision, and oh wait! Another satanic cult issue.

So, what I loved about the first movie was that the story was so easy flowing. Twist after twist, with some pretty OTT gross moments, it was such a great newcomer from the Netflix streaming service. This movie whilst it had some twists, I felt it was a little bit less about the story and more about the reappearance of characters. We don’t quite get to the bottom of how some of the characters manage to return. Although they were part of a satanic cult so who knows what the implications of that are!
Cole is such a caring character and he was so much fun in the first movie with the flashbacks of him with Bee having an absolute whale of a time! I feel that they really messed things up for him this time around – I suffered with him when he discovered that his parents, who were perturbed by his stories of that fateful night, were going to be sending him to a facility. My little heart sank! Of course his bestie Melanie was there to help him and she took him to the lake with her to party with lots of other hormonal teenagers who were clearly planning on getting wasted. His evening on the boat seems pretty normal at first, but after 2 minutes in heaven with Melanie (because 7 is unrealistic!) everything goes a bit pear-shaped. Was I expecting what happened next? No of course not. I really wanted Melanie and Cole to become a cute couple; they were just perfect for each other, but obviously the writers wanted everyone to feel this way so they wouldn’t see what was coming…
I do wish that we got more Bee time during this movie, as we know from the end of the last one that she disappeared so there’s no reason why they couldn’t have brought her back more and sooner. Her screen presence really made the first movie superior I thought. And her relationship with Cole was alluring, it really gave the audience a sense of how they felt about each other.
I’m a big fan of the soundtrack for these movies. There are some classic, with music that mashes so well with the scenes it coincides with, so kudos to whoever decided on that! McG did well to keep us entertained throughout. I didn’t feel that this was quite as strong as the original though sadly. I would still say that this movie should be on your Netflix Watchlist though, as it had some great comedic aspects, horror and gore. If you like the idea of any of these it’s got you covered!
